about

OTOBOR is a live improvisation based on melodies permutations and timbers created with extended techniques and preparation on guitar. It is a one take work, no overdubs, with only some old school looping.

By Elliott Sharp:
"A chill darkness looms in Otobor, Riccardo Murtas' album of
electroacoustic music realized on electric guitar. With a sound that is
neither menacing nor threatening, Otobor is richly enveloping like
experiencing crepuscule in an industrial environment filled with slowly
moving sculptures of gargantuan size. The title implies the early fall,
October, when light recedes and winter is on the horizon but when flipped yields "roboto", a gateway to the place of mechanical beings. The music is mostly static and when there is motion it is incremental, not dramatic or climactic. Murtas' soundworld pays homage to Morton Feldman and Iannis Xenakis but also to natural forms and processes outside of human construction: geologic, magnetic, oceanic, never self-consciously drawing attention to the techniques of its own construction and letting the music emerge. Ultimately, Otobor is a work of tranquility and somber beauty."

about

Riccardo Murtas Perugia, Italy

“Mostly composed, vastly improvised as the author himself discribes his music, are the best words ever spent for the corpus of work built and imagined during several years by Riccardo Murtas. A word where every event is precisely calculated by the composer and put in place by the instinct of the improviser, a ravenous poetic beast, quiet but still.” By Luca Perciballi ... more
